Part of the Taihu group of Chinese pigs. The Chinese have been selectively breeding domestic swine in this region for over 5000 years. They are quite probably the oldest livestock breed of hog in North America. There are shockingly few Meishan pigs that are verifiably pure worldwide. Estimates put the worldwide population of verifiably pure Meishan pigs at less than 2000 animals.
It has been an honor to work with American Meishan Breeders Association (A.M.B.A.) founder, Rico Silvera (pictured below). The Meishan seed stock he established in 2016 now resides at Meishan Preservation in its entirety.
Why Meishans
Managable and docile… Meishans are perfect for smaller farms. They have a low environmental impact on pastures.

Characteristics
A medium-size hog, males average 275-375 lbs, females 300-400 lbs. Produce large litters, often more than 14 piglets.
Preservation
The most genetically diverse registered stock in the U.S., with 7 boars representing all 3 genetic lines of pure Meishans.
